

Mothers’ needs are babies’ needs are children’s needs are mother’s needs.
Amidst these major shifts, there were countless whispers, “I need a break from being a mum for a minute.” Yet, I also vividly recall the opposite feelings from the early days - watching people hold my newborns while feeling a visceral ache for them to be returned to me.

I remember when I birthed my first baby. My own mother hadn’t before seen my breasts yet all of a sudden I was learning to breastfeed in front of everyone! If I had my time over I would do it so differently, including asking our male friends to stay home.

Can we have our postpartum bubble and eat it too?
In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need signs on the front door requesting short visits, or meal train schedules or maybe even Doulas! In a perfect world the knowledge about postpartum care would be innate.
